Fancifully elaborating on Bacon's inspiration, the Pope here "appears severely depressed". His black (again!) Mitra appears heavy and askance, his whole posture tilted to the side as if seeking to lean against someone or something for support. Yes! What a big taboo. According to official doctrine, those who firmly believe in Jesus Christ and his Gospel, are thought to be immune to depression. And if that were true for normal souls, how much more would it have to be true for the Pope as the head of the Roman Catholic Church, and - as the Roman Catholics hold - as the representative of Jesus Christ on earth? And yet: The Pope is a human being of flesh and blood. He is not God. So why should he be immune to depression - a psychological impairment which nowadays afflicts so many members of society around the world? Try to explain that to a child...
